In complete contrast to the neutral tones for the robin appliqué, I used bright and bold fabrics to make a two–sided robin softie.

How to make the robin softie

You will need:

2 pieces of contrasting fabric each cut to the same size and shape using the larger robin softie template. The larger robin template measures approximately 8 inches (20 cm) x 7 inches (18 cm).

4 pieces of fabric for the wings.

4 pieces for the eyes. (2 ovals and 2 small circles).

Lightweight filler for stuffing.

Method:

With right sides together, sew the two main pieces of the robin together leaving a gap for turning.

Turn right sides out.

Fill the robin with stuffing.

Sew the gap shut using a ladder stitch or other closing stitch.

With right sides together, sew each of the wings together leaving a gap for turning.

Turn each wing right sides out and sew the gap shut.

Sew the wings on to the main body of the robin. I used a running stitch and invisible thread but you could use a colourful thread and make this a feature of the design.

Sew the eyes on. I stitched the black circle on to the oval part of the eye before attaching the completed eye to the robin.

These robin softies make a lovely gift and are a great way to use up pieces of scrap fabric.

The fabrics I used can be found here and here.
