Chocolate Tea Cosy

As some of the characters in The Christmas Knitting Bee, such as Agnes who owns the knitting shop, were featured in a previous book (The Christmas Chocolatier), I’ve included a pattern for a chocolate tea cosy.

Chocolate Tea Cosy 1

The tea cosy has chocolate brown and copper stripes on one side and is completely chocolate brown on the other. It has a rich texture topped with a woolly pom pom.

You will need:

1 ball of chocolate brown double knit yarn.
1 ball of metallic copper coloured yarn.
Knitting needles size 4.5mm (UK 7. US 7).

Method:

Cast on 30 stitches using the chocolate brown yarn.
Knit 6 rows of garter stitch (knit stitches, no purl). The cosy is knitted entirely in garter stitch.
Change to the copper yarn. Knit 4 rows.

Shape the top of the tea cosy.
Knit two stitches together. K2tog to the end of the row. You should now have 15 stitches.
Knit the next row.
K1, K2tog to the end of the row. (10 stitches).
Bind off.

Cast on 30 stitches using the chocolate brown yarn.
Knit rows of garter stitch until the work measures 6 1/4 inches (16cm).
Shape the top of the tea cosy. (As previous method).
Bind off.

How to sew the tea cosy:

With right sides together use chocolate brown yarn and a knitters needle or embroidery needle to sew the side seams. Start at the top and sew down 3 inches (7.5cm). Leave a gap. Sew up 1 inch (2.5cm) from the bottom of the seam. This leaves a gap in the middle of the side seam for the teapot spout and handle. Sew both side seams the same.

Sew the top of the tea cosy together.

Turn the tea cosy right sides out.

Make a pom pom from the chocolate brown yarn and sew it on to the top of the tea cosy to finish the design.
