You will need:

Metallic blue yarn.
Metallic gold yarn.
2 piece of turquoise blue felt 3 inches (7.5cm) x 4 inches (10cm).
Blue thread.
2 blue diamante and 2 clear diamante.
4 Turquoise blue sequins.
4 Gold sequins.
Gold and silver beads.
Brooch finding (brooch pin).
Seahorse template. (Templates for the brooch/appliqué designs are also included here as a pdf document. When printed on to an A4 sheet of paper all of the patterns are the correct size).

Method:

Use the seahorse template to draw the outline of the pattern on to one of the pieces of blue felt. Sew around the outline with the blue and gold yarn. Use small back stitches or similar embroidery stitches.

Sew the diamante on.

Sew the sequins and beads on.

Trim around the edges of the seahorse, cutting away the excess felt. (Leave a small edging of felt).

Cut the other piece of blue felt to fit (same size as the front). Sew this on to the back of the seahorse. Use small stitches near the edges of the felt.

The seahorse appliqué is complete. Add the finding if you want to make the brooch.

Attach the finding (the brooch pin) to the back of the seahorse (sew or glue it on depending on what type you use).

The brooch/appliqué is ready to wear.
