The Strawberry brooch/appliqué is sewn with sparkling red and green yarn and shiny red and green beads. It measures approximately 2 1/4 inches (6cm) wide and 2 3/4 inches (7cm) high.
You will need:
Metallic red and green yarn.
2 piece of red felt 3 inches (7.5cm) x 3 inches (7.5cm).
Red thread.
Shiny red and green beads.
Brooch finding (brooch pin).
Strawberry template. (Templates for the brooch/appliqué designs are also included here as a pdf document. When printed on to an A4 sheet of paper all of the patterns are the correct size).
Method:
Use the strawberry template to draw the outline of the pattern on to one of the pieces of red felt. Sew around the outline with the red yarn. Use small back stitches or similar embroidery stitches. Sew tiny stitches in red yarn to create the seeded effect on the strawberry. Embroider the leaves with green yarn.
Sew the beads on.
Trim around the edges of the strawberry, cutting away the excess felt. (Leave a small edging of felt).
Cut the other piece of red felt to fit (same size as the front). Sew this on to the back of the strawberry. Use small stitches near the edges of the felt.
The strawberry appliqué is complete. Add the finding if you want to make the brooch.
Attach the finding (the brooch pin) to the back of the strawberry (sew or glue it on depending on what type you use).
The brooch/appliqué is ready to wear.
