Knit a Christmas Tree brooch using green metallic yarn. When finished it measures approximately 3 inches wide (8cm) x 3 3/4 inches (9.5cm) high.
You will need:
Green metallic yarn.
Red metallic yarn.
Knitting needles size 4mm (UK 8. US 6).
2 pieces of green felt approx 3 inches (8cm) x 3 3/4 inches (9.5cm) for the backing of the tree brooch. They should be slightly smaller than the tree.
1 piece of red felt 1 inch (2.5cm) x 2 inches (5cm).
1 piece of red felt 1 inch (2.5cm).
Green thread.
Assorted beads in red, gold, silver and green.
Brooch finding.
Method:
Knit the Christmas tree.
Cast on 16 stitches using the green yarn.
Knit 3 rows (garter stitch).
Next row, decrease the stitches. Knit two together at the beginning and the end of the row. (14 stitches).
Repeat knitting 3 rows and then decreasing 2 stitches until you have 4 stitches left.
Knit 3 rows.
Knit 2 together. Knit 2 together (2 stitches).
Bind off.
Add the felt backing:
Sew one of the pieces of green felt to the back of the knitted Christmas tree. The backing should be slighter smaller than the tree. Trim the felt to fit.
Make the base for the tree:
Fold the piece of red felt in two. Sew it on to the bottom part of the felt tree backing with the fold at the bottom edge of the brooch.
Wrap metallic red yarn around the felt base. Stitch it securely using red yarn and an embroidery needle.
Sew the other piece of red felt on to the back of the base. Trim the felt to fit.
Decorate the tree:
Using green thread sew the beads on to the tree.
Add the brooch finding:
Sew the other piece of green felt to the back of the brooch. Use small stitches near the edges of the felt.
Attach the finding (the brooch pin) to the back of the brooch (sew or glue it on depending on what type you use).
The Christmas Tree brooch is ready to wear.
