Snowman Brooch

Make a shimmering white, gold and silver brooch from yarn, beads and felt.

You will need:

Metallic gold yarn.
White thread.
2 pieces of white felt 3.5 inches (9cm) x 2 inches (5cm).
Assorted beads — crystal and silver.
Diamante.
Brooch finding.
Snowman template. (Templates for the brooch/appliqué designs are also included here as a pdf document. When printed on to an A4 sheet of paper all of the patterns are the correct size).

When finished the brooch measures 3.5 inches (9cm) x 2 inches (5cm). The little snowman measures 2 3/4 inches (7cm) x 1 3/4 inches (4.5cm).

Note: The outer edges of the white felt can be trimmed off leaving a quarter inch (0.635cm) edging around the snowman if you prefer a smaller brooch. It can also be used as an appliqué and sewn on to a bag or purse.

Method:

Use the template to draw the outline of the snowman on to one of the pieces of white felt. I used an ordinary pencil to draw the shape. Turn the felt over so that the pencil drawing is on the underside of the brooch. Use the outline as a guide to sew the beads on. Start by sewing on beads around the edges of the snowman.

Sew the hat using gold metallic yarn. I used a simple embroidery stitch.

Sew the eyes, nose and mouth on with the gold yarn. Sew on a piece of the yarn to make a scarf.

Add more beads and the diamante to the body of the snowman and to the hat.

Stitch the other piece of white felt to the back of the snowman brooch.

Attach the finding (the brooch pin) to the back of the brooch (sew or glue it on depending on what type you use).

The brooch is ready to wear.
