You will need:
1 100g ball of double knit yarn. (I used white with a sparkle through it).
Knitting needles size 4.5mm (UK 7. US 7).
Diamante accessories (optional).
Bow accessory (optional) (see how to make a Knitted Bow here).
When finished the hat measures approximately 18 inches (46cm) round x 7 inches (18cm) high.
Method:
Cast on 40 stitches.
Knit rows of garter stitch (knit stitches, no purl) until the work measures 6.5 inches (17cm).
Reduce to shape the crown:
K1, K2tog. Repeat to the end of the row. (You will finish the row on K1). You should now have 27 stitches.
Knit the next row.
K1, K2tog. Repeat to the end of the row. You should now have 18 stitches.
Knit the next row.
K1, K2tog. Repeat to the end of the row. You will be left with 12 stitches.
Bind off.
Knit two of these rectangles to make the front and back of the hat.
Sew the seams:
With right sides together, sew the side seams using a mattress stitch or similar stitch.
Sew/gather the crown using a knitters needle or embroidery needle and a piece of the yarn.
Turn the hat right sides out.
Decorate the hat with a diamante accessory or with a bow.
