Easy Knit Baby Blanket

Knit a baby blanket with this easy garter stitch pattern. I deliberately kept this pattern straightforward so that it’s suitable for beginner knitters or anyone who just wants to make a pretty little blanket in soft baby yarns.

The blanket measures 25 inches (64cm) x 30 inches (76cm). The entire blanket is knitted in garter stitch (knit stitches, no purl). This makes it easy to knit and creates a soft texture.

Note:
I’ve made a Doll’s Blanket pattern to match.

You will need:

1 100g ball of baby soft turquoise blue double knit yarn.
1 100g ball of baby soft white double knit yarn.
Knitting needles size 6mm (UK 4. US 10).

Note:
When changing from one colour of yarn to another to make the striped pattern, always change to a new colour on the same side of the blanket.
If you want a tighter–knit blanket use knitting needles size 4.5mm (UK 7. US 7) instead of the larger size. This will make the blanket slightly smaller but still substantial enough.

Method:

Cast on 100 stitches using the blue yarn.
Knit each row in garter stitch (knit stitches, no purl) until the blue stripe measures 5 inches (13cm).
Change to knitting with the white yarn.
Knit a 5 inch (13cm) stripe in white.
Change to knitting with the blue yarn and repeat as above. (Always change the yarn on the same side of the work).
Continue knitting the blue and white stripes until you have six stripes. You should have three blue and three white. (Beginning with blue and ending with white).
Bind off.
Secure the ends of the yarn by weaving them into the top and bottom edges of the blanket.
